Man behind the words

It was an ultimatum from my mother that turned me into a reader at the young age of 5. I just loved stories and couldn't go to sleep without hearing one every night. My mom, though tired after the day's work would indulge me by reading from popular children's magazines. One night she was more tired than usual and I kept bothering her. She snapped and threatened to stop buying those magazines if I didn't start reading on my own. I was terrified, literally. Life without stories were unimaginable, so I started reading on my own. Though it was a relief to my mom and a matter of pride, she came to regret it later when my voracious appetite for books came in the way of my exam preparations. But it was too late. Reading was like breathing to me. 
All that reading turned me into a writer. Without conscious effort, I was able to turn in well-written original essays during my academic days. When it came to choosing a profession, I opted for journalism. Despite being classified as a dying segment, I stuck to print media. During past 14 years, I worked for newspapers, magazines, weeklies, national and international news agencies and online portals. 
I quit working full-time as a journalist in Dec 2017 as I felt it was stifling the creative writer in me. The Word Factory is my freelancing venture that is helping to expand my horizons as a writer. My current portfolio includes script writing, book writing and editing, translations, ad copy writing, web content, notwithstanding contributions to several magazines, newspapers and online portals in India.
